How It Works: Sending Your Tail

At Thread & Tail, we know how meaningful each horse is — and how special it is to have a keepsake that honours them. Whether you’re sending your horse’s tail hair or choosing from our carefully sourced collection, we treat every piece with the love and care it deserves.

Step 1: Choose Your Design

Select the style that best suits your keepsake:

  • The Classic Tailpiece – our staple, single-colour design

  • The Signature Tailpiece – includes extras such as names, flowers, hearts, or halos

Make sure you complete the form, selecting thread colour, flower design, halo, frame colour etc.

Once you’ve ordered, you’ll receive a confirmation email with all the details you need to send your tail hair.

Step 2: Prepare the Tail Hair

  • You only need a small bundle — about the width of a pencil and 10-15 cm long.

  • Make sure it’s clean and dry before sending.

  • Gently secure the bundle with an elastic or small hair tie (please don’t plait it).

  • If the hair is still attached to your horse, snip a small section from underneath the tail where it won’t be noticeable.

If you don’t have access to your horse’s tail hair, don’t worry! We have a range of natural tail hair colours available that can be used instead to match your horse as closely as possible.

Step 3: Package & Send

  • Place the bundle inside a sealed zip-lock bag or small envelope to keep it clean.

  • Write your name and order details on a note inside the package.

  • Send it to the address provided in your confirmation email.

  • We recommend Posting with a Tracking Number for peace of mind.

Once your tail arrives safely, you’ll receive a quick confirmation email from us.

Step 4: Creation & Delivery

Each Thread & Tail piece is embroidered, assembled, and framed right here in rural NSW.
Your finished artwork will be shipped to you within 2–4 weeks, carefully packaged and ready to display or gift.

Returning Unused Tail Hair

We understand how special your horse’s tail hair is. If you’d like any unused tail hair returned to you after your piece is complete, we’re more than happy to do so.
Please make sure to note this in the cart message at checkout so we can package and return it safely with your finished artwork.
